All About Our School
At Castaheany ETNS, we opened our doors for the very first time on 8th September 2004. With a staff of 3 teachers and 52 pupils, we had no premises of our own. We travelled, by bus, to Lucan each day for the first school year. During that time, we were accommodated and warmly welcomed by Griffeen Valley ETNS. We will always be very grateful for their help, support and kindness as our new school became established.
In September 2005, we moved to our second temporary location: prefabs in the grounds of Mary Mother of Hope National School in Littlepace. Again, we were welcomed and made to feel at home. We shared their facilities for the next three years and CETNS grew from 3 classes to 12 classes. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to their staff members and Board of Management. From 2005 to 2008, our school community increased in size, experience, confidence and diversity. Although we quickly outgrew the space and this proved challenging at times, our years in the prefabs were very happy ones.
In 2008, the Department of Education and Skills provided us with our very own, permanent building in Ongar Village. There was huge excitement and joy throughout the school community. We got the keys on Friday 6thJune. After school, the furniture removal vans arrived along with an army of volunteers and a very busy weekend of moving and unpacking followed. On Sunday 8thJune, we held an Open Day, inviting families to come and look around. Then the big day arrived: pupils, staff and parents walked in a celebration parade from Littlepace to Ongar on Monday 9thJune and we began school life in our beautiful new building. It was a very special day and we haven’t looked back since.
In 2014, we celebrated our 10th birthday. Special cakes were baked and we had giant parties in the hall with every class. The CETNS adults also had a birthday party at night time. We held a “Castaheany’s Got Talent” Show. This was one of our proudest days. Our pupils showcased their amazing and varied talents to a huge audience. It was a fantastic occasion, simply unforgettable.
In 2022, we now have 16 mainstream classes, 422 pupils enrolled in these classes and a wonderful staff team of 38. Our CETNS Mission Statement, together with the Educate Together ethos, clearly sets out what we do at our school. Every child who attends our school is valued and nurtured. If you choose to send your child to our school in the future, we will take the very best care of them in a safe, respectful and inclusive environment.
