This programme is dual online and offline tailor-made spelling programme for your child.

I've done the inital test, now what?

Pupils from 2nd to 6th Class have been using the “Spellings for Me” site to create individual spellings lists.

Many pupils are now “locked out” of the yellow spellings tests. For pupils who have completed the yellow section, please follow these steps to access your learning words.

1. Log on to the site remembering to use  castaheanyetns.spellingsforme.ie/account/login
2. Once logged in scroll to the bottom of the page until you can see the orange “Learning Words” box.
3. Below this you will see a small rectangular box “Print Learning Words”
4. Click on this to open your learning words in a new tab.
*It is not necessary to print your learning words, you will be able to open them each time you log in.
**Pupils who are still working on their yellow test can still access spellings in the same way but will still need to complete the yellow tests to continue with the programme.

Understanding Learning Words

You will see on your Learning Words Sheet that the spellings are split into Grids. Grid 1 are your spellings for week 1, Grid 2 for Week 2 and so on. The grids are further broken down into boxes. See the sample below  Sample Grid 1  our table firm  yesterday four today after Monday  tired  know measure example Each day there are three spellings to learn so from Monday to Thursday you will learn 12 spellings altogether.  There is a video explaining how to learn your spellings with this method on the website www.spellingsforme.ie

Using Learning Words

  1. Once you have logged into the site you will notice on the left hand side there is a menu bar.  Click on the “Printables” section to access the activities.
  2. Open the “Spellings for Me Booklet” and the “Sample Spellings for Me Booklet.”  The first activity in the Spellings booklet is the Picture and Word, Silly Sentence and LSPCWC (Look, Say, Picture, Cover, Write, Check)
  3. Using your first three spellings try to think of a picture to help you remember the spelling. In the online sample, the spelling to learn is “quarter” and the child’s trick to remember the spelling is the little word “art” within the word “quarter.”
  4. Each day as you learn the spellings you will do this section. There is also one extra activity to help you learn your spellings. Activity 1 is for Monday, Activity 2 for Tuesday, Activity 3 for Wednesday and Activity 4 for Thursday. Your learning words for each week are the words to use for these activities.
  5. Each week the Activities will change except the Letter Strings Activity which you will do each week.
  6. In the Printable section, there are lots of activities and games for you to play and remember it is not necessary to print these activities. (LWA beside an activity just means that it is a Learning Words Activity)
These activities should be fun and if you’re finding it tricky just remember this is new to everyone!
